【Topic in Focus】 The topic of this issue is “BLCU Model”. Experts including Jiang
Liping, Zhai Yan, Zhang Hui and Mao Yue, etc. have been invited to give
concrete descriptions of the integrated Chinese course, a key course which
covers preparatory, advanced and short-term programs among other types of
teaching programs, and to further the discussion of “BLCU Model”.

similarity between English and Chinese intonations, and the physiological
mechanism for tone pronunciation, Professor Li Zhiqiang at the University of
San Francisco and Professor Lin Maocan at the Institute of Linguistics, Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences, discuss the application of intonation models in
pronunciation teaching with English-speaking learners as research subjects.

Keiko Koda’s Lectures on Second Language Acquisition】 “FL Teaching and Assessment: Reading to Learn” is the second of the
three articles based on three lectures given by Dr. Keiko Koda and Dr. Ke Sihui
in BLCU in 2017.
Dr.
Li Zhiqiang is a professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at University of
San Francisco, whose research interests include phonology, phonetics and TCFL.
Dr.
Keiko Koda is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University (the US), whose research
interests are second language development, bilingual reading, and foreign
language teaching methodology. Dr. Koda’s major achievements and works include:
cooperation with Development Associates, Center for Applied Linguistics,
Educational Testing Service, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign
Languages, and the U.S. Department of Education in projects on second language
reading research and evaluation; used to be or being a member of the editorial
committee of journals such as Reading
Research Quarterly, Reading and
Writing, Research in Second Language
Learning, TESOL Quarterly, and The Modern Language Journal.
Dr. Lü Mingchen is a professor in the College of
the Humanities at Jilin University, whose research focuses on linguistics and
applied linguistics.
